Queen Shenaynay has been posting quotes from her readings of Seeking the Face of God: The Path to a More Intimate Relationship with Him. I don’t own this book yet but I have one of the author’s other books, Sacred Marriage,
on my TBR list. The premise of Sacred Marriage is that mawwweedge* is perhaps, rather more for sanctification and that the personal happiness side of it is a fringe benefit not the main event. This idea probably cuts down on a lot of whining about needs. I haven’t read the book yet though so I am off the hook. But I digress.
All the quotes The Queen has posted have been great but this one was singing my song:
"A righteous life and rigorous training without a heart full of grace is like an egg without a yolk — a fragile shell that will break under the slightest pressure. Not only are Pharisees a bore and an active bother, they eventually crack under the strain of impossible expectations. That is only one side of the truth, however, for though Pharisees are eggs without yolks, those who try to exist solely on mercy without structure or discipline are like eggs without shells — a sticky, gooey mess."
I can see that I am going to have to add this to my own TBR list and also add it to the list of spiritually uplifting books I like my high school students to read before graduating.
*Either you get it or you don’t, but I know you do.

I do. ;o) Excellent quote..I, too, own Sacred Marriage but haven’t gotten through the entire thing. I have Sacred Parenting on my wish list.
p.s.–did you listen to Celtic Cry clips? What did you think?

That quote is soooooooooo spot on! I loooooove the egg analogy. Remember the salt and pepper one from Fireproof? That one is worth remembering L)
Thanks for boosting us in the Lord today, Cindy.
Praying for the *health of your wheels*

Oh, the big boys and Tim came home on Friday night and Saturday morning they got the van working with very little trouble. Thanks for praying. We were concerned we were looking at a big expense and I didn’t go anywhere for a whole week and then on Friday I had to go to Sam’s in Christopher’s orange 1978 Mercedes.
I did listen to Celtic Cry and thought it sounded great but now I need to relisten to the tracks because I have forgotten what they sounded like

Dana, I’m e-mailing you to pray next time MY car breaks down. We didn’t get off as easily as you, Cindy. We picked it up from our wonderful Christian mechanic at about 3x what we were expecting. Oh well, it’s old and paid for, and these occasional repairs sure do beat a car payment with interest!
I’m loving our new CA gas prices…in half from about six weeks ago. Gas is our #1 business expenses, so it was like getting a big raise!

Lisa,
What are your favorite tracks on Celtic Cry? I would like to buy a couple, I am leaning toward Fresh and Joyous Bloom and one other.

Hmmmm. I attended a lady’s Bible study using Sacred Influence (this Fall) and didn’t like the book at all. I stopped going after only 2 chapters. Even the teacher “apologized” and kept adding scripture references to the discussion because the book was so lacking. Maybe it’s just this particular book.

Cindy,
I do like Fresh and Joyous Bloom, also The Way of the Cross and Rest in You. Mighty Yet Merciful and I Commend My Soul are also excellent choices. I must say it is hard to pick favorites, though, because I truly love the whole album. Carmon has it, too…what are your favorite tracks, Carmon?

Janet,
I have a friend who knows Gary Thomas said that book is a bit of anomaly. He got so many letters after Sacred Marriage asking HOW that he wrote Sacred Influence to put some nuts and bolts to the concept. I have heard that it has turned off a few people. She said that she liked the book because she knew Gary and understood where he was coming from but that she might not have liked it if she hadn’t known him.

I bought Sacred Marriage for my new son-in-law and my second daughter- and I read it first and liked it.
But I bought it because I thought Cindy Recommended it.

I have heard nothing but praise for the first book. I will give it a try!

I have heard many good things about Sacred Marriage, and it does seem that taking an iron-sharpens-iron approach is beneficial and does what you say, Cindy, as far as “cutting down on whining.”
However, comma…
I don’t know about the underlying premise. Having not read the book, the premise that marriage is for sanctification doesn’t make biblical sense to me, seeing as marriage was created before sin entered the world. Of course, I won’t say that I haven’t experienced marriage (as well as motherhood) as having a sanctifying effect, but it seems that we can’t really say that marriage was created for the purpose of sanctification since it precedes sin.
Or, to get really philosophical, am I wrong because an omnipotent God would, of course, be able to anticipate the future existence of sin?
Hmmmmm…
Just a thought…having not read the book, as I said.

Brandy,
I may have overstated the premise, so I guess I am going to have to read the book to find out.

That quote is such an accurate word picture. I hadn’t heard of either of these books, will have to put them on the list.

*I got it!
And I loved the quote from the book. Especially apropos because I made mayonnaise this weekend and separated the eggs with my hands - talk about gooey!
(I also have lots to do, so I’m sitting at my computer catching up on your blog. It’s catching!)
