You have given money when they asked.
You have picketed at the abortuary.
You may have even attended a few dozen Rallies For Life.
You have prayed for the unborn and their parents.
You have grieved.
Some of you have gone so far as to have more children.
Some of you have adopted babies slated for death.

Now the Pro-Life community is asking you to do the easiest thing ever. This weekend, maybe even on Sunday afternoon, you need to attend the delightful movie Bella.
Emily, Natalia and her mother and I had the great privilege of attending a free showing of the film in Nashville this evening. After the showing, Eduardo Verastegui came forward to tell the audience about his vision for this movie. The heart and passion of the this young man for the culture is so remarkable that it is nothing short of a miracle. A former Latin Soap Opera star, he has invested his entire life into promoting the movie Bella. His vision for the arts fills me full of hope. When asked about his plans for the future he says that his only goal right now is to get the word out about his baby: Bella.
If your family enjoys movies but is frustrated with the flagging quality, supporting this young man is a worthy endeavor. Babies’ lives have already been saved. There will never be anything this easy and enjoyable that you can do to help the pro-life cause.
You see it’s the numbers that count in Hollywood and while I certainly resent being hoodwinked into movies just because they may be slightly better than usual, I really do believe this young man deserves his chance to make a difference. This is not an overtly Christian movie but it is a faithful movie. You will not be disappointed.
You can hear more of Eduardo’s amazing testimony here.
I would love to hear from those of you who are able to attend.

I’m glad you liked it. I saw it twice and cried both times. I hope it gets to stay in the theaters longer. Did you read what it said on the blind man’s sign?

I had to concentrate a bit, Carmon.
But I think it said, “God took away my sight so that I could see.”

We saw it last night and I immediately loved it. It’s also one of those movies you grow to love more and more the more time you have to think and reflect on it. So very well done.

I just ran this on a movie search for the small city we live near, and also the larger, metro area not far away. I didn’t find it in either….sigh. Hey, Carmon! Where did you find it playing????

We’re seeing it tomorrow! I can’t wait.

It’s not playing in our area…yet. Lord willing, it will come here soon. I’d LOVE to see it! I’ve read his testimony and feel the same as you do.

Dana,
They are in 500 theaters this weekend. Every weekend that they do well they get to put the movie in more theaters.

Saw it last week in Nevada. We really thought it was good: nice score, not preachy, beautiful, or “Bella”!

Cindy, thanks for linking to Mr. Verástegui’s story. We saw Bella this afternoon, and were deeply moved. Its beautiful, but not clichéd pro-life storyline was true art, made even more moving by Mr. Verástegui’s vision. Its portrayal of the Hispanic family was one of the most positive I have ever seen in film. I wish it were playing in our small town. For us, it was well worth the drive, and if given the opportunity, I will see it again. May God raise up a thousand more like this gentleman who will use their unique gifts and talents to speak Truth into the lives of people in their own sphere of influence.

LaJuana,
I thought the family scene was the most beautifully understated pro-life message of the whole film.

We are going tomorrow night. World had a article about the movie which talked about Mr. Verastegui’s conversion and his new stand about what kind of roles he would accept and how he was told that he would never work in Hollywood with that kind of stand. It was interesting that the next week Reader’s Digest did an interview with Denzel Washington who claims to be a Christian - he talked some about it in the article. However, he obviously has not made the same type of stand regarding the movies he stars in and it was just interesting to me to see the contrast. (Now I do think Washington is a good actor and I have enjoyed some of his films, but it just left me thinking about the impact an actor like he could make if he did make such a stand).
My son told me he heard Rush talking about Bella on his radio show. Rush said he was VERY impressed with the movie. He has a very large audience so hopefully his promoting of the movie will help.

That’s funny, Kim. I was just wondering about Denzel Washington the other day myself. I had heard part of an interview with him in which he mentioned the Bible and quoted a few verses during his conversation. I also noticed that he wrote the foreward in Tony Dungy’s autobiography. Tony is the coach for the Indianapolis Colts and also a Christian. ;)Yes, I notice unusual things. And I agree that he could make some “waves” if he truly has become a Christian!

I’d love to see this movie. My mom saw it and thought it was lovely. She lives in a small town in western Colorado. It is quite amazing it was showing there.
