OK, we’ve done this before but I can’t always be original!
“Don’t be a duffer.” Repeated frequently on a recent trip to my brother’s houseboat.
Alex wasn’t!
“If you give a mouse a cookie…” For obvious reasons.
“Sometimes you don’t NEED help.”
“Time for a little something.”
“Little drops of water…”
“With a bare bodkin who would fardels bear?”
“He can’t say it like our chief can.”
You’re such a dufflepud!”
“Water is powerful wet stuff.”
“A boon, a boon.”
“A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse.” Shakespeare really hit the nail on the head with that one.
“My precious”
“You’re such a puddleglum.”
“Christopher looks just like a marshwiggle.”
“Help may be right at the door.”
Or how about family expletetives:
“Tiddely-pom”
or our newest:
“Phooey!”
Picked up from and A&E series based on a series of books. I have read the books. The children have seen the movies, at least a few of them. Any guesses?
And finally my newest addition to the family culture. I plan to throw this out randomly when didactic stagers interrupt my morning monologues:
“Am I doomed forever listening to idiots try to hide incompetence behind verbiage?”
Or maybe they will say that to me:)
Your turn!

Cindy,

This is too much fun! I’ve meant to do a post like this for a long time and now you’ve motivated me to start thinking about not procrastinating so much. Maybe I’ll plan to do it soon.

Is that last quote from _Supper of the Lamb_? I love that book. Your link made me put a hardcover copy on my list. I underlined my paperback copy a lot. I think it would be a good hope chest item!
Oh, I got a kick out of all the literary references in your family culture.

Yes, I am thinking The Supper of the Lamb will make nice Christmas gifts. I am having fun thinking up gifts for my new daughters both of whom like to cook.

There are…”extraordinary noises overhead, which (are disturbing) the dignity and repose of (my) tea party”.
“Tut-tut, looks like rain.”
“This mess is so deep and so wide and so tall, we just can’t clean it up, there is no way at all!”
(For obvious reasons!)
Wow, I could go on forever. I’ll let other people comment while I go think on it for awhile or ask my kids! Whee! I love this!

Linda,
I like to look at my kids with an evil eye and say, “What would you do if your mother asked you?”

Too funny! We have lots of these, too; but of course, I can’t think of any of them just now. Well, just one….
“Hasten forward quickly there!”

I’m guessing that “phooey” is from the Nero Wolfe series. I’ve been slowly making my way through the A & E series & revisiting the books as well. In the books he spells “phooey” as “pfui” so now every time I say it that’s what I see in my head.

You are exactly correct, Serena.

In heavy wind…
“The wind was against them now, and Piglet’s ears streamed behind him like banners as he fought his way along…”
