*When on the phone with technicians from India do not use polite forms of conversation. Do not say thank-you nor you’re welcome. It will greatly increase the length of your phone call. Every time you acknowledge their courtesy they will repeat it several times. There are so many thank-you’s flying around I sometimes feel as if I am going to scream into the phone, “Enough!”
*It is efficient to listen to audiobooks at baseball games or practices but it is not expedient. If you are plugged in one will talk to you and you won’t get to know your neighbors. This is a perfect example of the negative effects of efficiency.
*Efficiency can be good. The other day Tim hung up the phone by saying, “I am walking into the hospital and turning off my phone.” No problem, except 5 hours later I hadn’t heard from him and he had failed to say what hospital he was walking in to. Not to mention he was not in Alabama but Missouri. Enter Google Earth. I hit the show hospital button and up came little red crosses. I clicked on a cross and all the contact info appeared. Tim was at the first hospital I called. Now that is what I call efficient!

*Here is an interesting story from World Mag Blog. Doctrinal issues taken to court. Is it ok to threaten legal action and church discipine in one breath? Well, that is a life lesson I haven’t figured out yet but I bet we will be hearing about this sort of thing frequently now reminding us that there is no new thing under the sun.

Cindy,
If you want to have loads of fun with the Indian customer service reps, casually ask them where they are from. The first time I did that you’d have thought I was asking for the keys to the missile silos (is that from the 80’s or what???).
And if you want me to go batty, let the customer service rep be a man. They tend to talk in a very condescending way and say things like, “Is your computer turned on?” By the time I’m finished I will be banging my head on a brick wall.

Oh, Cindy, I am greatly enjoying your sonnets (and Carmon’s poetry at her site) each day. It just doesn’t seem to require a comment, so I read it while drinking my morning cup of coffee or tea, enjoy, then move on to my day. Delicious and sustaining - like a croissant - but needing discussion or dissection? Not from me.

Neither are other forms of poetry, I’m afraid. People don’t usually like what’s good for them. Maybe I should post some that aren’t good for them, like something really horrendous by Byron.
Laura, you are a special case and a special lady. Even if I knew you were the only one reading it, I would keep posting those poems for you!

Actually, Cindy, I am enjoying your sonnet posts, but I really am not knowledgeable about poetry, so I don’t have anything to add.

About the sonnets and poems. I’m trying, really I am.

Lora,
My husband did ask one of them where they were from because he couldn’t understand the guy at all. Tim meant it in a general and friendly way but the guy acted like he thought we were going to come after him.

I am sorry I made all of my faithful commenters feel guilty
You can enjoy or not enjoy the sonnets without comment

I actually like the poetry. Unfortunately, I seldom have anything worthwhile to say about it, so I just keep my mouth shut!
My own attempts at efficiency have included things like trying to crochet while riding my exercise bike. It kind of worked, but I wouldn’t recommend trying this with anything more complicated than a simple belt!

How is Tim? We have prayed for him.

Tim is doing better although he isn’t really eating. He is back at work although very weak. He isn’t working at home right now so I am keeping up with him by phone. FRUSTRATING.
