The Mist and All

We enjoyed a lovely autumn day in Tennessee yesterday. Not only did we get to visit an apple orchard on a mountain and drink our new favorite drink, apple cider slushies, but we ate lunch at a cute little deli in Dayton, TN called Jacob Meyers. The little boys thoroughly enjoyed the Elvis special: grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches. After lunch we feasted on the apple cider doughnuts we had bought at the orchard. I ate exactly 1/2 of a doughnut before realizing they were probably designed to caused diabetic comas in non-diabetics. Laden with grease and sugar these doughnuts were delicious, if not edible.
It was really, really hard to say goodbye to Tim again but we are looking forward to visiting him during the month of October and watching the trees on the mountains change colors. This week they had just a tinge of color.
And once again I will post one of our favorite autumn poems. I have posted it before but it doesn’t Google and I think it must have been on my old blog and also it is one of Tim’s favorites.
The big boys are on their way back over to Dayton today to practice baseball with the Bryan team.
The Mist and All
Dixie WillsonI like the fall
The mist and all
I like the night owl’s lonely call
And wailing sound
Of wind aroundI like the gray
November day
And dead, bare boughs that coldly sway
Against my pane
I like the rainI like to sit
And laugh at it
And tend my cozy fire a bit
I like the fall
The mist and al
