Time for another music post. Here are a few songs that I have been enjoying lately.
1. Praise You In This Storm Casting Crowns
Here is the first verse of this song which never fails to encourage me.
I was sure by now God you would have reached down
and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
that it’s still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear your whisper through the rain,
I’m with you
and as your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.Chorus:
And i’ll praise you in this storm
and i will lift my hands
that you are who you are
no matter where I am
and every tear I’ve cried
you hold in your hand
you never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise you in this storm
2. When Did You Fall In Love Chris Rice
My dh, Tim, came in from work one day and said he had just heard a great love song on the radio. Turned out it was by Christian artist Chris Rice. I miss you, Tim.
3. Stranger to Holiness Steve Camp
Recently Carmon linked to the song He Covers Me by Steve Camp. When I clicked on it took me to the album that had this old favorite of mine Stranger to Holiness. He Covers Me is also a great song from this group of songs.
4. Let Everything Else Go Phil Keaggy with Randy Stonehill
While I was searching around iTunes I ran across this old favorite of Phil Keaggy’s only this time it is a duet with Randy Stonehill. This is one of Phil’s prettiest songs. The duet isn’t the cleanest version of it but it is great to hear the guys singing together.
5. One Voice Wailin’ Jennys
We recently heard the Wailin’ Jennys on A Prairie Home Companion. Not that I recommend that you listen to Garrison Keillor. Poor guy, he can get quite antagonistic towards Christians sometimes but lately he seems to have toned it down a bit. I immediately loved the sound of this group from Canada. Call it folk music.
6. Long Time Traveller Wailin’ Jennys
7. Always On Your Side Sherly Crow with Sting
Pure pop but this is a great duet.
8. Gravity Vienna Teng
I also like her Harbor and Lullaby for a Stormy Night. I got all 3 of these free and they also came loaded on my husbands new laptop.
9.Holy is His Name John Michael Talbot
I know, I only like really old Christian songs. But this is a timeless rendition of Mary’s Song from Luke 1.
10. Who I Am
Ok, to keep this mostly inspirational and to show that I am not hopelessly stuck in the late 70’s, here is another encouraging song from Casting Crowns.
I am always in the market for good Christian music. Suggestions welcomed.

Okay, Cindy - here’s how completely out of it I am. I’m not familiar with much of what you listed, nor have I even heard of the newer groups. When I read your first listing of a song by Casting Crowns, I thought it said “Casting Clowns” and all I could imagine is a group of clowns sitting around knitting. I’ll pass your list onto my daughter who will be more familiar with most of it than I am.

I love both of the Casting Crowns songs that you mentioned. I finally bought their newest cd because of the first song you listed. I love the words.
Highly recommended.
I can recommend the group “Watermark”. They are a husband and wife team but have recently stopped recording music. I have 2 of their cds-one of worship songs and the other a live cd although there isn’t any talking-just clapping at the end of the songs. I really like this one. They have several guests who help them out on certain songs-including Chris Tomlin, my favorite worship writer at the moment. I love almost all of his songs-be sure to check him out if you aren’t familiar with his music. Several of his songs are sung in churches now.
Who else do I like? Fernando Ortega, Twila Paris, some of Jeremy Camps less rocky songs, Sara Groves, some of Third Day (the less rocky ones) and I love, love the worship cds available here-

LOVE the newest cd “Valley of Vision” based on the book. Their songs are rich in reformed theology, very “biblically correct” lyrics.

Thanks, Joanna,
I have been wondering about The Valley of Vision CD.
I am curious about Watermark. I especially want worship music for my daughter to listen to. She loves music but I am having trouble plugging her into things I approve of.

Cindy,
Jadin Lavik is another favorite-check out his music at Amazon. He has 2 cds out so far and I keep both in the car so I listen to them regularly.
I’ll find a link for you-

There are samples available to listen to. His second cd is so good too.

Their “Purest Praise” is good too. They can be a little rocky.

I’ve come across ‘Telecast’ and really appreciate their British sound. “The Beauty of Simplicity” is the album I own; it’s good praise/worship with a easy rock sound.
I’m fond of “Jars of Clay” too.
I’m growing very fond of Jack Johnson, a new folksy/rock singer-writer. The acoustic guitar is what I love most.

Just FYI, Jack Johnson is not a Christian artist.

Any one remember the group Pat Terry and the album “Songs of the Southland”? It came out in the late 1970’s. I have been searching in vain for a long time.
